The idea of the this four-volume series was to collect original dictations authored by several experienced ear training specialists teaching in the Academy of Music in Gdansk.
Vol. 1 is focused around a typical “melodic” dictation within the tonal system. The dictations are organized by texture, from one- to four-part. Vol. 2 revolves around harmony, starting from tonal music with alterations, dissonant chords, suspensions, modulations etc., and reaching extended tonality and atonality. Vol. 3 is dedicated solely to the output of Eugeniusz Głowski, a professor of composition and ear training, who throughout his long teaching career has accumulated an extensive collection of original dictations of various kinds. Vol. 4 is meant to develop the skills of pitch recognition in atonality in one- and two-part texture.
Each volume is supplemented by a CD, providing audio material performed by various instruments / ensembles. The series may be used in classroom by ear training teachers, as well as by students for self-training purposes. To make it particularly accessible and practical for self-training learners, a set of worksheets is enclosed with each volume.
