The premise of this study of Baroque music was to provide an educational resource meant specifically for higher music education institutions. In contrast to many other resources in music history field, rather than focus on particular composers and their works the book aims to present Baroque music as a whole, while at the same time emphasizes its richness and variety within various aspects and shows how those aspects relate to each other. Baroque music is presented from various angles, with topics such as musical rhetoric, musical styles, the characteristics of musical structure, some typical genres and forms as well as instruments and performance practices being covered in subsequent chapters.
